Today is World AS Day, and this year’s theme is ‘Signs and Symptoms’. According to 2019 data, about 528 million people worldwide were living with osteoarthritis.
The global incidence rate of rheumatoid arthritis is about 1%, and about 75% of RA patients are women. RA is most common in women between the ages of 35-44, and in men between the ages of 55-64. Rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive disease, and RA patients have an average survival time shortened by 10-15 years; the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke is doubled; and the risk of cardiovascular death is increased by 30%. RA is a leading cause of disability, and more than 50% of RA patients stop working within 10 years of onset, placing a huge financial burden on the family.
The clinical symptoms of early rheumatoid arthritis are not obvious, making clinical diagnosis difficult, and because of this, patients always miss the best opportunity for treatment.
